Authorities searching for 25-year-old double homicide suspect

OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. — A nationwide extradition warrant has been issued for a 25-year-old man suspected of murdering a couple in Okanogan County.

Authorities are looking for Dylan Jay Harrington of Chesaw. The warrant is for two counts of first-degree murder and counts of unauthorized removal or concealment of a body.

The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office said on Feb. 15 at about 8:38 a.m., it received a request to perform a welfare check for a couple — Dave Covey, 80, and Gerlyn Covey, 60 — from Omak.

The couple reportedly left their Omak home Sunday, Jan. 13, to visit their property off Nealy Road and had not contacted family.

On that day, a deputy responded at about 9:37 p.m. to a report of a vehicle that had been left at the gate of the property. A deputy determined the vehicle’s owner matched the Coveys, who are the owners of the property.

Two days later, a deputy tried to contact the family at the property but could not find them, which prompted a missing persons investigation.

The county’s search and rescue team was brought in to help find the Coveys. A search began on the morning of Feb. 16.

At about 5:44 p.m., Dave Covey and Gerlyn Covey were found dead on their property, detectives said.

While searching the area for a person of interest in their homicides, deputies said a man ran away from officers twice. During that time, investigators did not have probable cause to arrest the man, and therefore he could not be detained.

However, detectives said personal property belonging to the Coveys and two of their dogs were found in a nearby cabin the man was seen fleeing from.

After the county coroner completed autopsies on the Coveys on Feb. 24, it was officially confirmed they had both been fatally shot.

Now, law enforcement is looking for Harrington, whom they describe as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone who sees Harrington or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office at 509-422-7232 and select option 4.

Deputies believe Harrington is armed and dangerous.
