Amazon delivery contractor caught on camera stealing

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

An Amazon delivery contractor was caught on camera stealing a wallet from the purse of a woman during a delivery.

The retail giant said the driver has since been fired.

It happened to Rachel Phinney, who is a community manager at an apartment complex on Queen Anne. She said the delivery guy asked to use the bathroom and she told him to go down the hall.  Then, unbeknownst to Phinney, he sneaked back into her home office.

In the security camera video, you can clearly see him carefully grab the wallet from the purse and stuff the wallet in his pants.  His face and Amazon shirt are also clearly visible as he leaves.

Phinney did not realize her wallet was missing until several hours later. She called her credit card company and found out the thief made charges at a convenience store and at a teriyaki restaurant. Police are investigating if the driver also used the same “bathroom excuse” to sneak around to the back of the restaurant and steal an iPad.

Amazon increasingly is using their own contractors for deliveries, as opposed to using third party carriers like UPS or FedEx. A spokesman sent a statement:

“We are engaged with law enforcement and the customer to ensure this is situation is fully resolved. The driver was terminated by our delivery partner earlier this morning.”

Phinney’s wallet was later found.
