2-alarm fire causes power line to fall, damages home; neighbors help woman escape

(Hoquiam Police Department)

HOQUIAM, Wash. — A Hoquiam woman is lucky to be alive after police said her neighbors alerted her that her house was on fire and got her out safely.

Police said neighbors called 911 to report a fire in the 900 block of Wheeler Avenue after 4:40 p.m Sunday.

When fire crews arrived, they found the woman's front porch engulfed in flames, police said.

Officials said the woman was already out of the home when they arrived.

The fire also spread and caused a live power line to fall on the ground, police said. It created an additional hazard.

Additional fire crews were called from Aberdeen to help put out the flames, as well as Grays Harbor PUD and a Cascade Natural Gas utility worker, because the fallen power line and significant combustible materials inside the house created a challenge, police said.

Police said there was heavy damage done to the home but there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
