REDMOND, Wash. — A father and daughter were caught after allegedly stealing nearly $7,000 worth of Microsoft products, investigators said.
According to police, an officer responded to a report of a theft at the Microsoft campus store at 15010 Northeast 36th Street in the morning of Jan. 21
Police said as an employee was doing an inventory check at the store, discrepancies had been found.
Investigators then looked at surveillance video and found two people committing thefts at two different times. With video and card key logs, investigators identified the two people as employees Andrew B. Neumann and his daughter Marie E. Neumann.
Investigators said certain employees had access to the software room of the company store, which Andrew B. Neumann and his daughter Marie E. Neumann did not have appropriate key cards to gain access.
On Jan. 14, Andrew B. Neumann tried to access the software room. After his key card was denied twice, a security guard at the entrance let Neumann and his daughter into the room. Police said the two entered the room and they each filled a mesh bag with software and items.
On Jan. 16, Marie E. Neumann tried to access the software room with her key card. But when the door didn’t open, the security guard used his card to let her and Andrew B. Neumann in. The two filled mesh bags with merchandise.
When Andrew B. Neumann and Marie E. Neumann were interviewed, Marie denied the accusations but Andrew admitted he was guilty of taking the items. Investigators did not believe the security guard was involved in the theft.
Investigators said the stolen property amount was estimated at $6,947.50.
Andrew B. Neumann and Marie E. Neumann will be charged with first-degree theft.
