How does the weather green screen work?

Q:How does the green screen work for weather forecasts?

A: When people visit me in the KIRO 7 studios they always like to see the chroma key wall – the green wall as we call it.

Essentially the computers in the weather department take everything that’s that shade of green and put the weather maps over it. I can’t wear this shade of green or anything very similar, otherwise you would see Everett through my tie.

Other folks like to know what’s that thing I have in my hand. Of course it’s a remote control, but it’s a little different than a standard TV remote control. The center button plays whatever I have set to go on the KIRO 7 Pinpoint Weather computers or the KIRO 7 Pinpoint Strom Tracker.

The most important button is on the top right – it is the hot button. If I’m running a little over – the producers give me a certain amount of time for my weathercast – I can press and hold that hot button and it goes right to the KIRO 7 Pinpoint five-day forecast.

That hot key is a lifesaver!
