FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A home in Federal Way burned as explosions from ammunition kept firefighters from going inside.
Fire crews were called to the home in the 28500 block of 20th Avenue South at 10 a.m.
When firefighters arrived and heard the explosions, the homeowner told them that he had ammunition and gunpowder in the home as a collector.
Because of the explosions, firefighters had to take a defensive stance and fight the flames from the outside, but the home was already fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived.
The house and a travel trailer were destroyed. The fire also damaged the side of the garage on a nearby house and cut off it's electrical source.
There were three people inside the home at the time the fire erupted, but they got out safely.
No one was hurt.
There was no indication of suspicious activity or that the homeowner had the ammunition illegally, but police will follow up.
