Front-porch package thief caught on camera

PIERCE CO., Wash. — Jed Wright and his fiancée Megan Smith were expecting a package Smith had ordered for the couple's wedding in August, but they weren't expecting someone to steal it off their front porch. But that thief apparently didn't know she was caught on surveillance cameras.

The video shows a truck as it pulled up in front of the couple's South Hill home. A woman gets out and walks toward the front door. A little more than a minute later she re-appears with a package in her hands.

That package was meant for the couple's wedding in August.  "It was actually my flower girl baskets," said Smith.

Wright had been notified the package was at his home and called a neighbor to get it for him while he and Smith vacationed out of town. But he said the neighbor called back moments later with bad news. "He goes 'dude, it's not there,'" Wright said.

Wright believes the woman may have stopped to have a look at a motorcycle that belonged to his father, spotted the package on the porch and decided to steal it.

Megan Smith said even though the items stolen weren't very expensive, she's angry. "I'm actually really frustrated because it was for my wedding and now we have to re-order it and it's already stressful as it is."

"It's a matter of somebody invading our privacy and taking something that was ours," Wright added.

The couple have reported the theft to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
