SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — It's been a brutal ski season so far.
Snoqualmie Pass saw some snow early this week, but days of rain have forced several companies offering ski lessons to cancel classes this weekend.
Two of the most popular ski areas are going to be closed.
If going to your ski school this weekend, it's best to call your company to check on their lesson status. Alpental and Summit West are open at The Summit.
It looks like spring runoff, but we're still in early February -- what should be the heart of the ski season.
And instead of blankets of snow, Snoqualmie Summit's been hammered with sheets of rain.
"Very surprised! Normally when I'm here there's a lot of snow,” skier Jeff Wong said.
Wong brought his sons to the mountain Friday for their first try at snowboarding.
"Avoid the rocks. Looks like there's plenty of exposed mountain up there, but the boys are going to give it a try and hopefully they'll have a lot of fun."
They don't have much terrain to work with, though.
We saw the ski patrol marking new bare spots Friday.
Only one lift was running at Summit West.
And the resort has closed the neighboring slopes -- Summit Central and Summit East -- for the weekend because of poor conditions.
Usually when you have this small amount of snow, grooming machines will come in and push the snow wherever it needs to be.
"Not the greatest season. But we're trying” said Kyle Denton, who works the ticket counter at The Summit.
He says his full-time job is great, but he's not getting many hours.
"Between 10 and 20 [hours] , if I'm lucky … It's been rough."
But the resort is hoping for a midseason blast of snow like last year, which kept people skiing into late April.
In the meantime, some say "wet snow is better than no snow."
Skiers and snowboarders will take what they can get.
Alpental will be open for skiing this weekend.
But with more wet weather ahead, the resort is telling people to check their website here before making the drive up to the mountain.
