Two badly hurt in Rainier Avenue South crash

SEATTLE — Rainier Avenue South was closed for hours early Thursday after an injury crash in the Rainier Beach area of Seattle.

The crash occurred in the 9700 block near Pilgrim Street at about 1:15 a.m.  The northbound lanes opened at about 6:50 a.m. The southound lanes opened shortly after 7 a.m.

One person was thrown out of the vehicle upon impact. The other was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by firefighters. They were both transported to Harborview.

Person is in critical condition and the other one is in serious condition.

No one else was in the car, which is mangled and destroyed.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.
