Pedestrian badly hurt in Covington hit-and-run

COVINGTON, Wash. — The King County Sheriff's Office says a man is in critical condition after he was struck by a suspected DUI driver in Covington early Friday.

Police were called to 164th Ave SE near SE 264th Street at 12:30 a.m. where a 54-year-old man had been hit by a black Subaru.  The road is under construction and there are no sidewalks on either side.

Deputies say the driver kept going and then crashed into a utility pole about 200 yards away.

The car ended up amid some construction equipment.

The 25-year-old male driver was arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault and DUI.

The victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with serious head trauma and broken bones.
