On Wednesday and part of Thursday, two cross-state highways — US 2 and state Route 20 — were closed over their passes, leaving drivers with fewer options to cross the Cascades.
SR 20 reopened at around noon on Thursday, however, US 2 will remain closed at least through Monday.
US 2 over Stevens Pass has been closed since Saturday after the Bolt Creek Fire erupted north of Skykomish. The fire above the highway has burned out trees and loosened rocks, spilling them onto the road.
Eighteen miles of the highway remain closed from milepost 31.7, about 2 miles east of Gold Bar, to milepost 49, west of Stevens Pass.
US 2 will be closed at least through Monday when the joint task force supporting the #boltcreekfire will evaluate the situation again. The closure points remain MP 35 Index & 49 Skykomish. We salute all those working on this incident. pic.twitter.com/hTK76PJMEX

On Wednesday night, SR 20, also known as the North Cascades Highway, was hit by a series of massive mudslides near Mazama, closing the highway across the mountains.
Heads up! The North Cascades Highway is now closed. SR 20 closed at MP 146 to prevent drivers from getting too close to this situation near Mazama. https://t.co/Mfj0vK1gpw

The highway was closed between MP 134 near the Ross trailhead and MP 173 near Mazama.
📸From the SR 20 #NorthCascadesHwy slide that our crews worked hard to clean up so we could reopen the road. Crews closed SR 20 from Ross Dam to Mazama last night (9/14) due to a slide. It reopened at noon today (9/15). Slides like these serve as reminders to always be prepared. pic.twitter.com/90MQx89pRK
