SEATTLE, Wash. — Despite a rather disappointing season, there could be some good to come from the Mariners’ 2025-2026 campaign.
Second baseman Cole Young, who debuted with the Mariners in 2025, is a finalist for the 2026 Rawlings American League Gold Glove Award, the Mariners and the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company announced Wednesday.
Young was a stable force for the Mariners’ defense this season. Throughout 157 games, Young led second basement in the American League in “nearly every defensive category,” according to the Mariners.
Young had 223 putouts, 397 assists, and a fielding percentage of .990. In addition, Young had 16 defensive runs saved, according to the Mariners.
On the offensive side, Young had a .246 batting average, 76 runs, 66 RBIs, and 17 home runs.
If Young wins the award, he will be the third Mariners second basemen in history to win a Gold Glove, and the most recent to win one since Cal Raleigh and Dylan Moore both won back in 2024.
