Ken Griffey Jr. selected for 2023 Royal Brougham Sports Legend Award

Seattle Mariners legend Ken Griffy Jr. has been announced as the recipient of the 2023 Royal Brougham Sports Legend Award.

Selected by local sports historians, media and industry colleagues, Griffey Jr. will join an elite group of recipients that include Lou Piniella, Sue Bird, Gary Payton, Edgar Martinez, Don James and more.

Griffey Jr. will accept the award Feb. 28 at the 88th Annual Sports Star of the Year Awards show in Seattle.

“I’m honored to accept the Royal Brougham Sports Legend Award and join this roster of incredibly influential figures in Washington sports,” Griffey Jr. said in a statement. “Seattle is a very special place to my family and me, and I look forward to celebrating with and recognizing the accomplishments of fellow award winners, nominees, and the sports community.”

Griffey Jr. began his career with the Seattle Mariners at 19-years-old, and ended with 630 home runs, 10 Gold Gloves and 7 Silver Slugger awards.

He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016, receiving a record-breaking 99.32% of the vote.
