Whistleblower says pierce County prosecutors should resign

By all rights, Pierce County deputy prosecutor Steven Merrival should be a happy man.

After all, he and the rest of Pierce County were treated to headlines that paint a grim picture of life in the office of its prosecutor.  It is the result of a whistleblower complaint Merrival and another employee filed.

"It is a damning portrayal of Mister Lindquist," said Merrival.  "And how he has subverted the office of the prosecuting attorney."

But Merrival now says he wants more; he wants Mark Lindquist out.

"And restore the Pierce County prosecutor's office to an office to an office that maintains the trust," said Merrival, "That serves the people that serves justice, that doesn't act vindictively."

The investigator's five-month-long probe concluded that, in his six years as Pierce County prosecutor, Lindquist has run the office on bullying and fear, putting politics ahead of good prosecutorial work.

Even the tragic deaths of four Lakewood police officers did not escape Lindquist's lust for electoral power.

"Instead, he viewed that as $100,000 of free publicity in his next campaign," Merrival said.  "We have enough people who are taking advantage of the people."

Monday, the Pierce County Council begins considering whether taxpayers should foot the bill for Lindquist's defense.
