Some smartphone maps showed viaduct, new tunnel as open

Twitter user @mattgilblezy said Apple Maps appeared to show the new SR 99 Tunnel as open Monday morning.

Users of some smartphone maps reported problems early Monday related to the closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Some maps such as Apple Maps, were not showing the viaduct as closed for some users.

Other users of Apple Maps reported seeing the new SR 99 Tunnel as being open, though it won't be open until early February.

The problems seemed to occur on the maps before a route was entered. Once a specific route was entered, the problem was resolved, users reported.

What the various apps showed seem to depend on whether you used an iOS or Android device and what version of the device you have.

Luckily though, the initial problems seemed to have since cleared up.

KIRO 7 RealTime Traffic Reporter Tracy Taylor said around 4 a.m., some of her apps were showing the viaduct as open, but an hour later, they appeared to have updated and showed the viaduct as closed.
