For the first time in school history, three University of Washington Huskies were picked in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night.
With the No. 12 overall pick in this year’s draft, the Cleveland Browns selected defensive tackle Danny Shelton.
Moments after he was selected, Shelton walked onto the stage in Chicago and wrapped his arms around Commissioner Roger Goodell, lifting him off the ground.
Shelton's selection came one day before the four-year anniversary of his older brother being shot and killed.
"I know my brother is watching from up above," Shelton said.
Moments after Shelton was selected, defensive back Marcus Peters was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 18 pick, making him the second Husky to go in the first round.
Peters was kicked off his college team with four games remaining in the season. Peters had repeated run-ins with the coaching staff, including an outburst on the sideline in one game.
Goodell stepped aside and let the Walter Payton Man of the Year, Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, announce his team's pick. And, at No. 25, Carolina took another linebacker -- Shaq Thompson.
The 6-foot, 228-pound Thompson was the winner of the Paul Hornung Award, given to the nation's most versatile player.
Washington Football Head Coach Chris Petersen congratulated Shelton, Peters and Thompson over Twitter.
