Texas police officer charged with murder in Oct. 3 shooting death of Jonathan Price

WOLFE CITY, Texas — Shaun David Lucas, the Wolfe City police officer accused of shooting and killing Jonathan Price on Saturday, has been arrested by the Texas Rangers and charged with murder.

According to his family, Price, 31, was attempting to defuse an apparent domestic violence altercation in a gas station parking lot about an hour northeast of Dallas. His family told KDFW that an officer, now believed to be Lucas, pulled up to the gas station as Price attempted to break up the fight and shot Price several times, resulting in his death.

Jail records indicate Lucas, who was booked into the Hunt County Jail on Monday, had been transferred to another facility and was being held in lieu of a $1 million bond, WFAA reported.

According to CBS-DFW, Lucas posted his bond within several hours of his arrest.

Calling Lucas' actions not “objectionably reasonable,” the Texas Rangers issued the following statement Monday night: “Officer Lucas attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away … Officer Lucas deployed his TASER, followed by discharging his service weapon striking Price.”

Described as a “hometown hero,” “standup guy” and “mentor who worked with children,” most who spoke out publicly about Price told CBS-DFW that they are perplexed by the officer’s actions.

“I want to see what the man gets … what he has coming to him for killing my son,” Junior Price, Jonathan Price’s father, told the TV station.
