Queen Elizabeth II dies: President Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrive in London

LONDON — Air Force One touched down at London Stansted Airport around 10 p.m. Saturday ahead of the Monday funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.

Biden arrived in darkness with first lady Jill Biden to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II. On Sunday, President Biden will pay his respects at Queen Elizabeth’s coffin and, later in the evening, attend a reception by the new King Charles III.

According to The Associated Press, Biden had planned to meet with British Prime Minister Liz Truss on Sunday but rescheduled the meeting to take place at the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

It’s unclear how the president and First Lady will travel on Monday for the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issued guidance to world leaders ahead of the funeral, which will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at Westminster Abbey. The FCDO asked that heads of state use commercial flights and have banned the use of private helicopters, according to NPR.

Bussing will be provided to the funeral for dignitaries, who are expected to travel in groups. According to The Washington Post, Biden and a few others will reportedly travel using their own armored vehicles.

World leaders from almost 200 countries and territories are expected at the funeral.
