Police: Colorado man responded to crime scene in stolen patrol car

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. — Police arrested a man in Colorado who they said stole a cruiser from a sheriff’s substation, used it to respond to a dispatched call and then led police on a chase before crashing.

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that Jeremiah Taylor was arrested after a crime spree that began early Monday. Deputies said Taylor burglarized a Park County Sheriff’s Office substation and stole a patrol vehicle.

Deputies said that Taylor was in the stolen vehicle when a call was broadcast over the police radio system in Teller County for a domestic violence incident, KRDO reported.

Teller County Sheriff’s deputies who arrived at the scene said they saw the suspect in the stolen patrol vehicle coming down the driveway toward them, KKTV reported. At one point, the suspect is accused of saying, “Where’s the old man that’s going to shoot someone?”

Before deputies could take Taylor into custody, he sped off in the stolen patrol car. Investigators told KDVR that when the stolen vehicle was spotted approximately two hours later, Taylor sped off again, hitting speeds up to 110 mph.

Taylor continued to speed until eventually crashing the vehicle, at which point he got out and tried to run, KRDO reported. Deputies told the station that they ordered Taylor to stop and show his hands multiple times, but he refused to comply.

Deputies caught up with Taylor in the woods, where he was armed with a knife, KCNC reported. Deputies used a stun gun, and at least one shot was fired during the confrontation. Deputies told KCNC that no deputies were hurt and Taylor was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted knife wounds.

Taylor faces a list of charges, including aggravated motor vehicle theft, impersonating a peace officer, second degree burglary and reckless driving.
