Pennsylvania man arrested for allegedly shooting, killing his dog

BELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man in Bell Township, Pennsylvania has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his dog.

According to court records obtained by WPXI, Eric Rumbaugh, 51, purchased a beagle with his estranged wife last year.

Rumbaugh claimed he and his estranged wife got into an argument Tuesday night, according to court records obtained by WPXI.

The woman allegedly told police that she entered the house, and the dog left and went into the backyard. Both her and Rumbaugh tried to call the dog back inside, but Rumbaugh allegedly got upset and said he was going to get his rifle, according to court records obtained by WPXI. The woman told police that she went into the backyard and was able to get the dog to walk back with her.

As the woman made her way towards the house, Rumbaugh allegedly raised his rifle and pointed it in her and the dog’s direction, according to court records obtained by WPXI. Rumbaugh told her to move.

According to court records obtained by WPXI, she refused to move and told investigators she was scared of what Rumbaugh might do. She then said she hid under the deck when Rumbaugh allegedly shot his rifle, which struck the dog.

The woman told investigators she heard the dog yelp, according to court records obtained by WPXI. She then went inside the house, grabbed her belongings and left. She later said she received a text from Rumbaugh asking if he could bury the dog in one of the blankets.

WPXI reported that surveillance video and audio were obtained from the house per the court records.

Rumbaugh has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and terroristic threats, according to WPXI.
