Asher Molyneaux posted photos he took while he was out scalloping Sunday, sharing the images on the New England Fishmongers’ Facebook page.

A dorsal fin can be seen sticking out of the water.

While it is rare to see killer whales in the Atlantic near Cape Cod, it’s not unheard of, Boston 25 News reported.

Video recorded by Got Stryper Charters based in Chatham, Massachusetts, also captured an orca on video near Cape Cod in 2019.

In 2016, Bruce Peters from Capeshores Charters snapped photos of an orca dubbed “Old Thom.” Some locals are wondering if “Old Thom” is still around and if that was the killer whale photographed this weekend, Boston25News reported.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, killer whales live in all oceans but are most abundant in cold water near Antarctica, Norway and Alaska.
