Man charged with murder in toddler’s death

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina man who is on active duty with the military is accused of killing a toddler on New Year’s Day.

According to the Jacksonville Daily News, police arrested Ricardo Montesinos, 24, of Jacksonville, on a murder charge over the weekend, just days after emergency crews responded to a medical call involving a 2-year-old. The child, later identified as Annaley Ratliff, died, authorities said.

A 2nd Marines Division spokesman identified Montesinos as a hospital corpsman, the newspaper reported. The victim was Montesinos’ fiancee’s child, the spokesman said.
