Police were called to RA Sushi in Houston at 11:30 p.m. Monday night for reports of a shooting, KHOU reported.

“We were pretty much eating and the next thing you know, you just hear a pop,” Patrick Robinson, one of the fighters credited with catching the suspect, told KHOU. “Me and my buddy, we ran to the shooter… got him down, strangled him, took the gun from him. ... Call(ed) the police and they got him.”

Robinson was with his friend, who both train in mixed martial arts, but told KTRK they never expected to use their skills. “You see it on the news, or you see it on TV or the movies and stuff, but you never see it actually in life, and it is crazy that nobody got hurt.”

Officers told KPRC there were approximately 50 people inside RA Sushi when Jesus Samandiego pulled out the gun and started firing. Officers said the suspect had drugs with him when he was arrested.

No injuries were reported. Samandiego is charged with possessing a stolen gun and discharge of a firearm, KTRK reported.
