According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred in Walled Lake northwest of Detroit, WDIV-TV reported.

According to authorities, deputies and police officers from the cities of Novi, Wixom and Walled Lake responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a man with a gun, according to the television station.

At a news conference Sunday afternoon, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the call at 4:11 a.m. EDT from a 25-year-old woman was “chilling,” The Detroit News reported. Bouchard said the woman told dispatchers that her father had killed her mother.

When officers reached the scene, police said the man, Igor Lanis, 53, came out of the house’s front door with a shotgun and started shooting at officers, Bouchard said.

Police fired back at Lanis, killing him, according to the television station.

Lanis’ 56-year-old wife was dead inside the home, according to Bouchard. She had been shot at least four times with a handgun, the News reported. Bouchard did not release her name.

No officers were injured in the incident, WDIV reported.

The shooter’s daughter was taken to an area hospital, WJBK-TV reported. She was in stable condition but suffered “super traumatic injuries” to her back and legs,” Bouchard said.

Police do not know what led to the shooting, according to the sheriff.

“I think there was danger to anybody,” Bouchard told reporters. “He had his keys with him so who knows where he was headed.”
