Man shot 3 people he thought were stealing campaign signs, police say

TOPEKA, Kan. — A man shot three people Saturday night who he thought were stealing campaign signs supporting President Donald Trump, police said.

When Topeka police arrived to the scene around 11 p.m., one person was injured and was taken to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported. Two other victims were later taken to hospitals for treatment by private vehicle, police said.

Two people were taken into custody for questioning. No arrests have been made.

Police have received numerous complaints about stolen signs leading up to Election Day.

Topeka police said seven signs have been stolen in four reported cases, WIBW reported. Three of the signs supported former Vice President Joe Biden; two other signs were for Mary Lou Davis, a Democratic candidate for state House of Representatives. The content of the two other stolen signs was not listed.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office has received 20 complaints about 27 stolen signs. It was unclear who the stolen signs were supporting.
