Man on magic mushrooms allegedly assaults United Airlines crew mid-flight, FBI says

MIAMI — Authorities say that an out-of-control passenger took psychedelic drugs before his flight from Miami to Washington, D.C, and allegedly assaulted a flight crew in mid-flight.

About one hour into United Airlines flight 2116, Cherruy Loghan Sevilla reportedly began acting erratically, including wandering around the plane, yelling obscenities and clapping loudly near the cockpit, according to an affidavit obtained by NBC News.

Passengers later told the FBI that Sevilla broke part of a bathroom door and managed to open it with an occupant still inside.

After flight attendants convinced Sevilla to return to his seat, he laid on the floor, yelling louder. Another flight crew member tried to get him to his seat, and he allegedly attacked her.

A law enforcement official was on the flight and handcuffed Sevilla. A second flight attendant was injured in the scuffle, authorities said.

According to KHOU, Sevilla was arrested and taken to an area FBI office after the plane landed at Washington Dulles International. In interviews with agents, Sevilla said that he had consumed psilocybin, often called magic mushrooms, at the Miami airport before boarding.
