Louisiana man, 28, dies after vehicle strikes horse

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. — An early-morning crash involving a horse left a Louisiana man dead on Saturday.

According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kealin Batiste, 28, of St. Martinville, died due to his injuries following the crash, KLFY reported.

Deputies confirmed to KATC that Batiste was found unresponsive in his vehicle and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to KLFY, investigators believe that Batiste was a passenger in a vehicle traveling south on Duchamp Road at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when it stuck a horse.

Both Batiste and the driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the TV station reported.

According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, KLFY reported.
