POCATELLO, Idaho — A 2-year-old boy had a close call Thursday after police said his mother accidentally poured antifreeze into the toddler’s sippy cup.
According to Pocatello police, the child’s mother poured what she thought was soda from a Mountain Dew bottle into the sippy cup, the Idaho State Journal reported.
Police said the bottle had been filled with antifreeze by people working on a vehicle near her home, the newspaper reported. Authorities did not say where the bottle was when the woman poured the liquid into her son’s cup. The child did not drink the liquid, police said.
Around 5:30 p.m., the boy left with his father later in the day for a visitation night and his cup was packed, the State Journal reported.
Several minutes later the woman poured herself a drink from the same bottle and realized it was not soda, the newspaper reported.
Police said the woman was taken to a medical center for treatment and called 911 to tell police about the contaminated cup, the State Journal reported.
Police found the father 45 minutes later driving in Pocatello and pulled him over. Authorities said the boy did not drink the liquid because the father had emptied the cup, the newspaper reported.
Police said they were relieved the boy did not drink from his cup. Authorities did not release the names of the parents or the child.
