Grizzly bear mauls, kills moose hunter in Alaska

COPPER CENTER, Ak. — A hunter in the Alaskan wilderness has been killed by a grizzly bear.

The hunter, who has not been identified, was mauled and killed by the bear in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in southeast Alaska on Sept. 20, National Park Service officials said.

He was on a 10-day moose hunt with a friend.

It is the first known bear mauling death at the park, the National Park Service said.

No one else was hurt, and the man’s injuries were not detailed.

National Park Service officials remind people going out in the park that they need to carry bear spray and use bear-resistant food containers.
