Florida woman hits assailant with hammer, deputies say

PALATKA, Fla. — A Florida man accused of attacking a woman last week got a severe headache for his efforts.

According to Florida authorities, the man was hit in the head with a hammer by the victim and stabbed with scissors by another woman.

James Pascoe, 40, was charged with two counts of battery in connection to the April 20 attack, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

According to deputies, the victim said she got into a verbal argument with Pascoe that escalated. The victim said Pascoe struck her in the face several times.


The victim then grabbed a hammer and struck Pascoe in the head, according to the news release.

Another woman became involved in the altercation and stabbed Pascoe several times in an effort to help the victim, deputies said. Pascoe managed to strike the second woman, sending her into a dresser.

Another witness told deputies he helped the victim escape by blocking Pascoe’s path, deputies said. According to the news release, Pascoe climbed out of a bedroom window and left the scene.

Although Pascoe had left, authorities were able to find him when they received a call that a man, who matched his description, had entered a local medical center for treatment,

After Pascoe was cleared by doctors, he was arrested and taken to the Putnam County Jail, according to the news release. Pascoe was later released after posting $3,000 bail.
