HIALEAH, Fla. — A Florida woman is behind bars after police said she tried to kill her children, including a 6-month-old baby.
According to WSVN-TV, Ailenys Carmenate, 31, of Hialeah, was arrested on charges of premeditated attempted murder, battery and child abuse after she attacked the infant, her 9-year-old daughter and her 12-year-old son on Saturday, authorities said.
Police said Carmenate was in the older children’s room when she forced her elbow against the baby’s neck, WSVN reported. The 9-year-old girl tried to help the infant and fight off Carmenate, authorities said. Carmenate’s boyfriend was able to rescue the baby after the oldest child opened the bedroom door, according to the news outlet.
As the boyfriend, who was holding the baby, and the children tried to flee to safety, Carmenate tried to choke the older boy and girl, WSVN reported. The baby suffered a head injury, and both the infant and 9-year-old had marks on their necks, police said.
Carmenate has been jailed without bond, according to WSVN.
