Coronavirus: T-Mobile to fire unvaccinated corporate staff beginning April 2

Unvaccinated corporate T-Mobile employees have until April 2 to get their COVID-19 vaccine jabs or face termination, according to an internal memo circulated Saturday.

The notice, posted to the T-Mo blog, stated that the new policy was announced Friday in an email to all staff from the company’s human resources chief, Deeanne King, Forbes reported.

“Employees who have not yet taken action to receive their first dose and upload proof by February 21 will be placed on unpaid leave. …Affected employees who do not become fully vaccinated ... by April 2 will be separated from T-Mobile,” the blog quoted the memo as saying, Reuters reported.

According to Forbes, the memo did indicate that employees can apply for vaccine exemptions for medical and religious reasons, but the blanket edict was issued as T-Mobile works toward resuming in-person operations on April 2.

The vaccine requirement reportedly does not apply to field technicians and “most” in-store retail workers, the news outlet reported.

In a Saturday statement obtained by Reuters, T-Mobile stated: “We are requiring office workers (with limited exception for certain roles, locations and legally mandated accommodations and exemptions) to be fully vaccinated by April 2,” adding that “badge-controlled offices continue to be accessible only to those who are vaccinated against COVID-19.”
