Coronavirus: Suns donate $100K to help downtown Phoenix restaurants

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns are doing their part to help restaurants and food vendors get back to business as coronavirus restrictions are easing up.

The NBA franchise, through its nonprofit agency, Suns Charities, donated $100,000 to restaurants and food vendors in downtown Phoenix, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.

Sun Charities partnered with Local First Arizona to distribute money to select businesses so they could provide meals to community groups, the newspaper reported.

Restaurants and other businesses in downtown Phoenix have experienced decreased profits ranging from 80% to 100%, the Business Journal reported.

“The opportunity to support small, independent restaurants in our community, while also providing meals to those in need, is a huge win for everybody,” Suns All-Star Devin Booker said in a statement. “I’ve felt at home in Phoenix since day one and it means a lot to me to be able to assist our amazing downtown neighborhood.”

Suns Charities has donated money to 15 restaurants and vendors from the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market, the Business Journal reported.

“We will be working with at least two businesses a week to distribute the funds so that they can make the meals and get them to the nonprofits,” Thomas Barr, the executive director of Local First Arizona, said in a statement.
