Coronavirus: Hospital ‘disappointed’ after nurse seen at crowded Wisconsin bar

A hospital said it is disappointed after one of its nurses was seen at a crowded Wisconsin bar after the state lifted its stay-at-home order.

Katie Koutsky, a nurse with Advocate Aurora Health, was part of a crowd of unmasked bar patrons Thursday, WGN reported.

“I have a toddler at home and I’m a full-time nurse. It’s been very stressful and hard to go out and be with my friends and family at the bars,” Koutsky told a news crew covering a story at the bar, WGN reported. “I don’t think the risk presents any higher than going to a grocery store.”

Advocate Aurora Health operates hospitals in Wisconsin and Illinois. All employees are screened before their shifts, hospital officials said.

“Given the ongoing education and safety measures we are fully committed to, we’re disappointed,” hospital officials said in a statement. “The health and safety of our patients, team members and our community are our highest priorities. As businesses begin to reopen, it’s important we all continue to practice safety measures that have been effective in stemming the spread including social distancing, thorough handwashing, staying at home when sick and wearing masks in public in accordance with local government guidance.”

Koutsky did not comment to WGN.

There are 11,280 confirmed cases and 434 deaths from the coronavirus in Wisconsin, according to The New York Times. There are 88,081 confirmed cases and 3,945 deaths in Illinois from the virus, The Times reported.
