According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and KGTV, San Diego police said the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. PDT Tuesday at a home on 43rd Street in Mount Hope. The resident said he saw two men outside his house when he returned home that night, the news outlets reported.

The resident told officers that one man held him at gunpoint and ordered him to let them inside the home, police said. The resident said he later disarmed the man as the intruders were going through his belongings, police told the news outlets. The man then attempted to charge at the resident, who opened fire, striking the intruder and prompting his accomplice to flee, according to police.

The injured suspect, identified only as a 39-year-old man, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died, authorities said. The other suspect, an Asian American man, is still on the run, according to police.
