According to KTVU and KNTV, the incident occurred Friday night on Salvio Street as Concord police Officer Aaron Khamosh was on patrol. A panicked driver flagged down the officer, pleading for help for an unresponsive toddler in the back seat, the Concord Police Department said in a Facebook post.

“The officer jumped into action and began life-saving measures including chest compressions and CPR,” the post read. “The baby was unresponsive, and the officer could not find a pulse. As the baby grew pale, the mother revealed that the child ‘got ahold of some fentanyl’ and needed Narcan, a drug used when a person is having an overdose.”

The child began to breathe again after Khamosh administered two doses of the anti-overdose drug, police said. Crews then rushed the toddler to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the Facebook post.

The child, who remains hospitalized but is expected to recover, is now in state custody, authorities said. Meanwhile, the victim’s mother is facing child endangerment and drug possession charges, according to police.

“We are grateful the baby will survive this ordeal and for Officer Khamosh’s quick thinking,” the Facebook post read. “A reminder to our community, that fentanyl is an extremely dangerous and potent opioid.”
