Black bear destroys Georgia woman’s car after getting stuck inside it

A black bear climbed into a Georgia woman’s car and destroyed the vehicle after getting locked inside it.

Warner Robins High School art teacher Mary Jane Yarbrough was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for an art workshop when she was startled awake one morning midway through the week-long class, WMAZ reported.

“It was six in the morning and I just keep hearing honking happening,” she said. “I open the door. My dog is going crazy and I see that it’s my car that is honking and shaking and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, someone is in there. Someone is stuck in my car.’”

She quickly realized it was not a person, but a large black bear.

“The bear actually like smacked the window and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, that’s a bear,’” Yarbrough said. “It was just disbelief. Like there is no way.”

The bear ripped the dash, seats and airbag. The radio was pulled out. The bear even went through the glove box.

The car was a total loss. Officers who responded said it was one of the worst bear encounters that they had seen. Wildlife officials said black bears are not usually aggressive toward people.

Yarbrough said there were only two things in the car, gum and a protein bar. The bear did not touch either.
