Peter Katsis, who managed artists such as Korn, Backstreet Boys and Ice Cube, has died at the age of 69.
A representative for Katsis said he died of congestive heart failure on Aug. 6, Variety reported.
Katsis, who was from Chicago, got his start in the entertainment industry at Northern Illinois University, and eventually managed the career of the alternative band Ministry. He was only 23, Rolling Stone reported.
He was also an A&R executive at Trax Precision Records and worked with Marshal Jefferson and Adonis, according to Variety.
Katsis eventually left the Windy City for Los Angeles and co-founded the company Firm with Jeff Kwatinetz, making entertainers Enrique Iglesias, Snoop Dogg, and 30 Seconds to Mars, among countless others, household names.
He won a Pollstar Award for Most Creative Stage Design for Backstreet Boys’ “Millennium” tour, according to Variety.
Rolling Stone credited Katsis for making Smashing Pumpkins arena headliners during their reunion for The End of Times Tour in 2014.
Billy Corgan paid tribute to Katsis, writing, “I’ll always cherish his intense candor and deep love of great music; which was infectious. And he deserves immense credit for helping to usher in the alternative revolution of the 80’s and 90’s and beyond. He was truly one of a kind. One of us. And Chicago royalty through and through.”
Katsis leaves behind his sister and his son, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
