Astronaut Jessica Meir celebrates first day of Hanukkah from space

It was a celebration that was simply out of this world.

Hanukkah is celebrated worldwide, but astronaut Jessica Meir took it to a new level Sunday.

"Happy Hanukkah to all those who celebrate it on Earth!” Meir tweeted Sunday from the International Space Station.

Meir’s tweet included a picture of her feet in blue and neon-colored Hanukkah socks, CNN reported. The socks were adorned with menorahs and the Star of David. The earth can also be seen in the photo.

Meir, the daughter of an Israeli doctor, joined the crew of the International Space Station in September, The Jerusalem Post reported. She was part of the first all-female spacewalk two weeks later, along with fellow astronaut Christina Koch, CNN reported.
