Arizona man pleads guilty in death of girlfriend’s 4-month-old baby

TUCSON, Ariz — An Arizona man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 4-month-old baby pleaded guilty Monday to charges of second-degree murder and child abuse, prosecutors said.

According to KOLD-TV and The Associated Press, Nicholes Liggens, 21, of Tucson, originally was charged with first-degree murder after the child’s death in December 2018.

Investigators said they found the infant unresponsive while Liggens was babysitting the child, the news outlets reported. Emergency crews rushed the baby to a nearby hospital, where doctors noticed signs of head trauma. The infant later died, officials said.

Prosecutors also alleged that Liggens abused the baby’s 3-year-old sibling, according to the news outlets.

Liggens’ sentencing is set for April 6, officials said.
