Arizona Cardinals WR Marquise Brown accused of ‘criminal speeding’

PHOENIX — Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of “criminal speeding” on a north Phoenix highway, authorities said.

Brown, 25, was arrested at about 7 a.m. MST along Loop 101 near the Interstate 17 interchange, KTVK reported.

Details on how fast Brown was allegedly driving at the time have not been released by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

KTVK and KSAZ-TV, citing court documents, said a trooper allegedly clocked Brown traveling at 126 mph.

According to Arizona state law, a person can be charged with criminal speeding if he or she exceeds 85 mph on a highway. Criminal speeding is a Class 3 misdemeanor under Arizona law, according to The Arizona Republic. Possible punishments include up to 30 days in jail and up to a $500 fine.

Brown was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and made an initial appearance in Maricopa County Superior Court Wednesday evening, according to the newspaper.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Hollywood Brown and have reported it to the NFL office as required,” the Cardinals said in a statement. “We will comment further as appropriate.”

The wide receiver, who was born in Hollywood, Florida, was acquired in a draft-day deal with the Baltimore Ravens, ESPN reported.

A first-round pick (No. 25 overall) by the Ravens out of Oklahoma in 2019, Brown caught 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns for the Baltimore in 2021, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com. He has 21 career touchdown catches after three seasons.

The receiver has not practiced much during training camp since suffering a hamstring injury in July, the Republic reported. He had just come off the active/non-football injury list on Tuesday. according to the newspaper.
