8 stabbed in Colorado Springs in early-morning spree, police say

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police arrested a man suspected of stabbing several people in an apparently random attack in downtown Colorado Springs early Monday morning.

Authorities said eight people were injured when a man, whose identity was not immediately released, began stabbing people around 1:30 a.m. Monday. The stabbings took place at three separate locations outdoors, police said.

Update 1:15 p.m. EST Jan. 13: Investigators said officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of 8th and Limit streets. Police found two people injured. As they searched the area for the suspect, they found several more victims, authorities said.

Officers spread out to look for the suspect, who had reportedly fled on walking trails that led through America the Beautiful Park.

Around 2:15 a.m., police got reports of another stabbing perpetrated by the suspect which left several injured near the intersection of Tejon and Boulder streets, investigators said. Officers said they found the suspect being detained by one of his victims.

“The male was taken into custody and there is no danger to the community,” police said.

Investigators believe the stabbing happened at random. Police said there were no known connections or relationships between the suspect and his victims.

Authorities continue to investigate.

Original report: Responding officers found two victims at the first location around 1:30 a.m. followed by several more at a nearby park, KRDO reported.

According to KKTV, authorities received several calls at 2:12 a.m. claiming multiple people had been stabbed at a third location. Upon arrival, police found a few of the victims had detained a man believed to be the suspect.

In all, eight people were transported to the hospital for treatment for what authorities called “sharp force trauma injuries,” but the extent of the victims’ injuries are not yet known, KRDO reported.
