‘Heartbroken’: 3 adults, 5 minors fatally shot inside Utah home, police say

ENOCH, Utah — Eight people, including five minors, were found fatally shot at a Utah residence on Wednesday, authorities said.

Police in Enoch City were conducting a welfare check when officers found the bodies inside the home, KSL-TV reported. Each person had gunshot wounds, according to KSTU-TV.

“At this time, we do not believe there is a threat to the public or that there are any suspects at large,” officials with Enoch City said in a news release. “This investigation is still active and more information will be provided at a later time.”

The circumstances leading up to the shooting were unclear as of Wednesday night. Police did not release the names or ages of the victims or their relationship to one another.

Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson tweeted her condolences.

“What a tragedy. I’m praying for the community of Enoch tonight,” the governor tweeted.

Rob Dotson, Enoch City manager, said Wednesday night that his community is mourning the family’s deaths.

“It’s hard to describe in words the emotions that are going through the people who live here,” Dotson said, according to CNN. “We all know this family. Many of us have served with them in church, in community, and gone to school with these individuals.

“And so, this community at this time is hurting. They’re feeling loss; they’re feeling pain. They have a lot of questions, which is natural, and they’re here to support.”

In a statement posted to its website, the Iron County School District in Cedar City said that the five children were all students there. The loss was certain to raise “emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school district, especially our students,” school officials said.

Aaron Diamond, a resident of Enoch City, said that he knew those killed well because they attended the same church as him. “They were just a wonderful, wonderful family,” Aaron Diamond, a resident of Enoch City, told The New York Times. “We’re all just shocked and heartbroken. The people who live here love their neighbors.”
