NOCATEE, Fla. — A 13-year-old girl says she was inspired by her late grandfather to use her love of baking cookies to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Jameson Shaw has been baking in the kitchen for the last two years.
“I was asking my mom if we could make some blueberry muffins and she said ‘Why don’t you make it yourself?’” Jameson said. “I was like, really? And I did it and I really liked it.”
Her specialty is chocolate chip cookies. While she has always loved baking, because of her grandfather, she’s now a young entrepreneur.
Jameson’s Poppy, who died Dec. 10, had Alzheimer’s disease for the last few years of his life. She told her dad that she wanted to use her talents to raise money to help find a cure for the disease.
“I was like, well, we will have to make a lot of cookies,” Will Shaw said to his daughter. And so they began making cookies — lots of them.
Jameson wanted to find the silver lining in her grandfather’s disease. She created KukiDoodle and began selling her cookies for Alzheimer’s research.
“I thought it would be around like $100 for Alzheimer’s but I made $1,000,” She said. Now her goal is to raise $25,000 in the next five years.
Her cookies are now being offered in local businesses in St. Augustine, Florida.
Jameson says it’s the memory of Poppy that will keep her baking cookies and raising money to find a cure.
