Charles Dickens wrote his classic novella, “A Christmas Carol,” in six weeks, publishing it on Dec. 19, 1843. The well-received work has been a staple in film and television -- especially on Christmas Eve -- beginning with “Scrooge; or Marley’s Ghost” as a silent screen movie in 1901.
