3 ways 'The Simpsons' predicted the future

Could "The Simpsons" really predict the future?

They did sort of.

Some prescient plotlines included a Donald Trump presidency, the ebola outbreak and malfunctioning voting machines.

In 2000, "The Simpsons" aired "Bart to the Future," in which Trump was president.

In the episode, Bart receives a glimpse of the future. He and his family are visiting a casino when he encounters an American Indian who tells his future.

He sees into the year 2030, when Lisa is the first female president and is rebuilding the country after Trump's reign.

Did "Lisa's Sax" (aired Oct. 18, 1997) predict the Ebola outbreak?

"Lisa's Sax" described Bart's first day of school and subsequently how Lisa received her saxophone.

But an interesting tidbit, it also featured the Ebola virus. The episode shows Marge offering a sick Bart a book titled "Curious George and the Ebola Virus."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the first reported case of the virus in the United States on Sept. 30, 2014.

With voting machines, The Simpsons knew their stuff.

Everyone remembers the outrage at voting machines during the 2012 presidential election, when some machines selected Republican candidate Mitt Romney instead of incumbent Barack Obama.

In "The Simpsons" 2008 Halloween special, "Treehouse of Horror XIX," Homer selects Obama but the machine registers his selection as John McCain.

The real-life issue was almost a complete re-enactment of the episode.
