Teen dies in fall on Mount Pilchuck

A 15-year-old Lynnwood boy died Saturday night after falling off of the Lake 22 Trail on Mount Pilchuck, about two hours north of Seattle.
Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies said the hiker's companion called from a nearby home shortly before 8 p.m. to report the fall.
The Sheriff's rescue helicopter was able to find the body near the trail and confirm the boy had died, deputies said.

MOUNT PILCHUCK, Wash. — Recovery efforts were called off for Saturday night and both ground and air crews planned to return Sunday.

On Sunday morning, crews recovered the teen's body.

Dozens of friends have posted on the Facebook page of Cedric Cunanan. They told KIRO 7 Cunanan was with a group, including his older brother, when he fell.

Some heard that he somehow got separated from the group. When they could not find him, they went to get help.

Aniyah Kelly, a fellow freshman in Cunanan's Lynnwood High School class, said the shock has hit many of his friends who found out through social media.

Kelly described Cunanan as having an outgoing, funny personality. She said he was always there for friends who needed someone to turn to, and even reached out to classmates who seemed to be alone.

"It's just not going to be the same without him," Kelly said.

Another friend, Allison Jiminez, described finding the news on Facebook: “I just saw a whole bunch of ‘rest in peace, Cedric’. And I started bawling my eyes.”
Friends said Cunanan was a hip-hop dancer and a basketball player. They said he was always looking ahead and excited to become a sophomore as soon as the school year ended in two weeks.
