Serious-injury collision in Puyallup when car strikes man

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A 60-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured Thursday morning in Puyallup. Police said the incident was causing some traffic delays.

The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. in the 2200 block of North Meridian Avenue near Valley Avenue Northeast, Puyallup Police Department spokesperson Capt. Ryan Portmann said. Portions of the roadway would be closed Thursday morning while police investigate.

The closures will be in place for several hours, Portmann said. He advised drivers to use alternate routes.

It’s unclear how the collision occurred. Portmann said it appeared that the man was struck in the middle of a block. He said there were no signs of impairment in the driver.

The man who was struck was transported to an area hospital. Portmann said the man suffered significant injuries.
