(Puyallup Police Department)

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A 49-year-old man was taken into custody about 1:05 p.m. Saturday after a brief standoff with Puyallup police.

Police closed 11th Avenue Southeast between 15th Street Southeast and 17th Southeast due to a domestic violence suspect who was armed inside a home, officials said.

People living in the area were told to shelter in place.

Others headed that way were told to avoid the area.

Police said negotiators were able to talk the man out of the home.

He was believed to be under the influence of drugs and was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, police said.

After the evaluation, he will be booked into jail on domestic violence charges, police said.
