Seattle mayor pardons 'Tofurky' named after Washington apple

“I, Mayor Murray, pardon Braeburn the Tofurky,” proclaimed Mayor Ed Murray at the Seattle City Hall on Friday.

SEATTLE — Mayor Murrary pardoned the tofu turkey and challenged the Seattle City Council to a food drive.

“Only in Seattle,” tweeted the Washington Secretary of State office.

The food drive will run through December 12, 2014.

The team that collects the most food items will win a doughnut delivery from either Mayor Murray or Council President Tim Burgess.

Braeburn the ‘Tofurky’ has a companion vegetarian turkey named Honeycrisp.

According to the office of the mayor, the two tofu turkeys are named after popular Washington state apples.
